Atiku Democratic Movement ADM has bemoaned the recent report on the threat to lives issued to PDP Presidential aspirant, Atiku Abubakar’s family members by some unknown persons.

The group has claimed that the threat is coming from a set of unscrupulous people in this Government, adding that “they are treating the life of the God-sent Messiah who is to deliver the people of Nigeria from the hand of pharaoh.”

Speaking on Friday morning with journalists in Akure, the Ondo State Capital, the State Director of Atiku Democratic Movement, Hon. Olasupo Olakunori expressed his disappointment, explaining that this government has taken the safety of Nigeria citizens.

He stated that the threat against the life of Atiku and his family by some unscrupulous persons under this current regime could lead to polarization of national unity.

He quoted Chapter IV in the 1999 Constitution (as Amended) which talks about the Fundamental Right to life in Section 33 (1), saying: “Every person has a right to life, and no one shall be deprived intentionally of his life, save in execution of the sentence of a court in respect of a criminal offence of which he has been found guilty in Nigeria”.

The State Coordinator therefore said that, such a threat to Atiku’s life and his family is repugnant to natural justice and good conscience.

He further posited that the government has seen Atiku Abubakar as the only Opposition aspirant who has given a valid quit notice to President Buhari back to Daura in Katsina state and ,that as far as Nigerian Constitution is concerned, every capable Nigerian has a right to join any political party that he/she likes.

Quoting Section 40 of Nigerian Constitution, he stressed that “Every person shall be entitled to assemble freely and associate with other persons, and in particular he may form or belong to any political party, trade union or any other association for the protection of his interests.

“Provided that the provisions of this section shall not derogate from the power conferred by this Constitution on the Independent National Electoral Commission with respect to political parties to which that Commission does not accord recognition.”

He finally called on Law Enforcement Agencies to ensure that such perpetrators are brought to book to serve as deterrent to others.
