Relevant stakeholders in the civil service of Oyo State, on wednesday, converged at Oyo town, to brainstorm on how to formulate a workable health financing document to further make health care in the state accessible to all.
The workshop, jointly organised by Oyo State Ministry of Health and USAID, TB LON Project 3, was also meant to look into the availability of resources for treatment of tuberculosis and other comminicable diseases in the state.
The Oyo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Bashiru Bello, while declaring the two day workshop open, said the essence of developing the Health Care Financing policy was to ensure that residents of the state continually get the best health care at various facilities with little or no cost.
Dr. Bashiru noted that relevant ministries have been incorporated in the project for the purpose of achieving the set goals of providing quality health care for people of the state.
His words: “What we are doing today is in line with health insurance scheme, it is going to complement State’s health insurance scheme ( OYSHIS) where enrollees do pay token and get treated.
“The policy through appropriate budget and legal frame work would enable patients access medical care at ease.”
Also speaking , the Project Director , DGI Consult , Dr. Gafari Alawode , maintained that the policy document would enable concerned authorities to plan properly, monitor , evaluate and track health financial activities of the state as expected.
He hinted further that his organization will mobilize additional resources to support the state government towards achieving universal health coverage.
” The health financing and policy strategy for Oyo state is a five year plan, this will clearly state what to achieve and source of support.
” The template if finalized would also has evaluation mechanism and accountability plan , which will contains indicators, baselines, targets amongst others “.
In his contribution , the Director, Planning , Research and Statistics, Ministry of Health, Oyo State, Dr. Abass Gbolahan , said it was essential for the ministry to develop the plan in order to identify reputable partners and also gets necessary support from them for projects implementation .
