In line with the wide stakeholders’ consultation tour embarked upon by the management team of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission( OYSIEC ) to reduce voters’ apathy, the chairman of the commission, Aare Isiaka Abiola Olagunju, has urged the electorates to trust the electoral process of the local government election.
The chairman made the appeal when he paid a courtesy visit to the Muslim Ummah Society of Western Nigeria (MUSWEN) at Iwo Road, Ibadan.
He urged the citizens and residents of Oyo state to trust the integrity of members of the commission and give the electoral umpire a chance by keeping faith with them.
The chairman assured that, the will of the people is sacrosanct , going by the transparency agenda of the commission , adding that all local government council elections will reflect the mind and vote patterns of the electorates .
Aare Olagunju explained that the grassroot election is very important as it is the fulcrum on which the development of the society rests, adding that it is necessary to involve all relevant stakeholders in the process of electing leaders at the level.
Earlier, the Executive secretary of MUSWEN, Prof Musiliu Yahaya, encouraged the electoral team to stay independent as the name of the commission states, and should not get any order from any individual but from the constitution as well as the acts that guide their practice.
Prof. Yahaya enjoined them to always consider God factor in the discharge of their duties , stating that anyone who practice religious teachings will always be better in executing his or her roles.
The cleric called on residents and citizens of the state to get involved and support the commission in conducting the elections while also coming out to vote and be voted for in the forthcoming election.
