In an apparent manner, politics reared its ugly head when assassins took the life of Ijebu Igbo political strongman, Alhaji Ishola Adebanjo and his heir-apparent, Babatunde Adebanjo aka Tun-Banj.
During time of festivities, the Adebanjo household was thrown into mourning by these gruesome murders.
Adebanjo had been embroiled in a battle to unseat Buruji Kashamu in the next primaries while working with other PDP leaders to win the gubernatorial elections next year. One of the first callers at the Adebanjo home was former Governor Gbenga Daniels who eschewed the impeccable virtues of the slain leader. Notably absent was an emissary from either Kashamu or Governor Amosun.
Alhaji Adebanjo, however, has since been buried according to Muslim rites. He is survived by his widow and children.
May Allah, in his infinite mercy, grant him Jannatul-Firdaus and forgive his sins.
Erratum: In our previous publication, we erroneously reported that Babatunde Adebanjo (Tun-Banj) was also killed. He is alive and well in the United States, and undergoing a postgraduate program.
