… Says Governor backed up his promise with action
The Oyo State Chapter of Nigeria Association of Persons with Physical Disabilities (NAPWPD), has commended Governor Seyi Makinde, following the appointment of one of their own, Barrister Ayodele Adekanbi as Special Assistant on Disability matters.
The group, in a Facebook post signed by Comrade Timothy Olufemi, who also belongs to the same Oyo State Disability Vanguard with the appointee, said that ‘In spite of our hopelessness then, Almighty God raised for us ‘a Moses,’ to make a beating-path to the corridor of power.
“For several years we have yearned for a government that will identify with our plights and pull us out of the gloomy position forced on us by society.
“Ayodele Adekanbi, between 2006 and 2011, bridged that gap of exclusion and fell that wall of separation hindering our collective participation in the commonwealth of Oyo state.
“Like the titan he was, he made disability a topical issue in society, preventing any government in power to look the other way. Yes, there were authorities who paid lip service; fact remains that they couldn’t shy away from disability issues without consequences – the last guber election is a recent history.
“Today, we have a benevolent Governor in the person of Engr Seyi Makinde (GSM – Hope For Persons With Disabilities). In his inaugural address as Executive Governor of Oyo state, Gov. Seyi Makinde stated in unequivocal terms his desire to better the lots of people with disabilities in the state. That promise has been backed by action with the appointment, again, of Bar. Adekanbi, a man of honor, integrity and capacity to facilitate a process that can bring about a shared prosperity for all persons with disabilities in Oyo state – a platform to share in our collective patrimony.”
The group, however, has called for a meeting with the Nigeria Association of the Blind NAB so as to equally create an avenue for all cluster groups to make inputs in Bar. Adekanbi’s blueprint.
“We all must come together as brothers and sisters to support Bar. Adekanbi, our leader to succeed. We all must toil for freedom sake”, the group added.
