The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged Nigerians to remain peaceful in response to INEC’s declaration which named President Muhammadu Buhari of the APC as the winner of the presidential election.

A former aviation minister, Osita Chidoka, who served as an agent of the PDP at the collation centre in Abuja, noted that his party was committed to democracy and would explore lawful means to resolve issues, Daily Trust reports.

“The PDP remains a very lawful party, we believe in the law, we believe in the constitution of Nigeria, we are committed to democracy. But we have a good message for Nigerians, we want them to remain peaceful, we will explore all our options, including the belief that the legal process in Nigeria is one of the way to resolve issues,” Chidoka said after the final announcement by INEC was made.

The former minister had earlier said there was a discrepancy of more than 1,600, 000 voters in terms of registered voters. He said the cancelled votes affected more than 2 million voters.

Chidoka claimed there were 5.1 million votes that cannot be accounted for and thus called for a rerun. However, the INEC chairman Mahmood Yakubu, said the assertion that 5.1 million voters could not vote because of card readers is not true.

He also said when card readers are deliberately circumvented, votes will be cancelled. Meanwhile, Nuhu Ribadu, the director of field operations of the President Muhammadu Buhari campaign organisation, on Wednesday, February 27, described the re-election of the first citizen of the country as a reward to Nigerians.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ribadu said this in Yola, the capital of Adamawa state, that Nigerians sacrificed their time and energy to vote in a free and fair election and were rewarded with a man committed to selfless service.
