Ekiti 2022: Despite Fayose’s Threat, PDP Delegates Pitch Tent With Eleka As He Formally Declares Interest In Guber Race
Delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party across the 16 local government areas of Ekiti state, earlier today, defied a threat by Chief Ayodele Fayose, a former governor of Ekiti state, to assemble at the Apata Hall Arena, Ajilosun, Ado-Ekiti, for the Professor Kolapo Olusola Eleka’s declaration to run in the forthcoming gubernatorial race.
Penultimate to the event, a former Governor of the state, Chief Ayodele Fayose, had barred the party delegates from associating with the Ikere born University Don, and issued stern warning against gracing the declaration event.
To further keep delegates preoccupied so as to boycott the declaration of Professor Eleka, Chief Fayose called an emergency meeting of delegates in Afao-Ekiti, scheduled for the same time as the event for the declaration.
Despite the schemes of the former Governor, delegates of the party shunned the meeting of Fayose, defied his threats and trooped in their numbers to attend the gubernatorial declaration of the immediate past deputy Governor.
Professor Eleka, a former deputy governor of the state and gubernatorial candidate of the PDP in 2018, is believed to be the frontline aspirant to clinch the ticket of the party for the governorship election scheduled for 2022.
He enjoys enormous popularity among the rank and file, and leadership of the party within and outside the state. He is also seen as the candidate to beat by Ekiti electorates.
