Killings: APC Has Failed In Its Responsibilities To Nigerians – Group

A vibrant Pressure Group on Whatsapp, ‘TEAM FREEDOM FOR ALL’ has said that the current administration has failed in its responsibilities having failed to deal decisively with the killer herdsmen.

The Group in a statement signed by its coordinator, Adebisi Adeola, and made available to NEWSBREAKng said that “There is no reservation in the saying that one of the salient responsibilities of a government is to protect lives and properties of its citizens against internal and the external attacks.

“Sequel to this empirical fact, the recent attacks on the Benue residents by the Fulani herdsmen show that the APC led federal government is not only clueless in its responsibilities but bereft of capacity and required policies to maintain peace and security check in Nigeria.”

Speaking further in the statement, the group lamented that “It is really regrettable that the herdsmen unleashed mayhem in Benue community on 1st January, 2018 which claimed many lives and properties without arrest and prosecution of any of the suspect.”

They further reprimanded the submission of Myetti Allah who said during his interview while speaking to the BBC Hausa that the attacks which claimed 60 lives were borne out of the stealing of 1000 cows while relocating to Taraba through Negere border town of Nassarawa.

According to the Group: “We want to say without ambiguity that the statement credited to Garus Gololo, the head of Cattle Breeders Association in Benue state is undemocratic, and treasonable in a normal democratic setting.

“Nigeria is a country where rule of law is inherent, hence, federal government should as a matter of urgency condemn the attacks and bring the suspect, including the Myetti to justice to prevent future occurrence.

“One would wonder when Nigerian government will do away with sentiments and address bothering issues. The federal government hastily condemned the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), labeled them terrorist group but handling the habitually herdsmen attacks with levity and nonchalant attitudes.

“Needless to say that it is a double standard on the part of the federal government to deploy army to engage the cultist activities in Rivers state within a shortest time, but deployed police to Benue state where those notorious herdsmen operate with sophisticated weapons”, the statement added.

The group however appealed to the federal government to wake up to its responsibilities and stop playing politics with lives and properties of Nigerians, maintaining that the Federal Government should, as a matter of urgency, apprehend and prosecute the notorious herdsmen within 48 hours to restore peace and security not only in Benue state, but other part of the country.

While saying the narrative that the Fulani Herdsmen that butcher Nigerians like a chicken are foreigners is not only petty but unacceptable from a government that promised Nigerians heaven and earth during the campaigns, the pressure group asked that the Inspector General of police, Ibrahim Idris be warned not to politicize or downplay the abysmal killings by feeding Nigerians with misguided narrative of communal crisis.

“The IGP should wake up to his responsibilities of protecting lives and properties of Nigerians”, they said in the statement.

The Group however called on President Buhari to rescue the situation before the herdsmen cripple the economy of the indigenes which may cumulatively result into reprisal attacks and break down of law and order via taking laws into their hands.
